Position Overview:

We are seeking a Hospital Cook to join our Dietary Services team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking nutritious meals for patients, hospital staff, and visitors, working closely with our Dietitian to ensure dietary needs and food safety standards are met. You will also perform various food service duties including cafeteria work, cashiering, and dishwashing, all while upholding the highest standards of hygiene and food safety in a hospital setting. Key Responsibilities:

A. Cook

  • Meal Preparation & Cooking:
    • Prepare a variety of meals for patients, hospital staff, visitors, and special events, ensuring food meets nutritional, quality, and taste standards.
    • Follow established dietary guidelines and portion control, including specialized diets prescribed for patients.
    • Ensure all meals are prepared with fresh ingredients, adhering to hospital food safety regulations.
    • Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, and mixers while ensuring cleanliness and safety protocols are followed.
    • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, equipment, and utensils.
    • Report any issues with kitchen equipment, supplies, or food inventory to the Dietary Services Supervisor.
    • Monitor and document refrigerator temperatures, cleaning schedules, and patient meal preferences.

B. Cafeteria Worker & Cashier

  • Customer Service & Cafeteria Maintenance:
    • Prepare and serve beverages (e.g., coffee, iced tea) as needed for the hospital cafeteria.
    • Assist customers by taking meal orders and processing payments in a courteous and efficient manner.
    • Ensure the cafeteria is clean and orderly, wiping down tables, restocking food items, and maintaining a welcoming environment.
    • Replenish food and beverage supplies, ensuring items are fresh and properly stored.

C. Dishwasher

  • Dishwashing & Sanitation:
    • Keep the dishwashing area clear of dirty dishes and patient trays.
    • Adhere to Universal Precaution Standards when handling used patient trays and food utensils.
    • Operate the commercial dishwasher and clean equipment according to hospital protocols.
    • Maintain a sanitary dishwashing area and ensure cleanliness throughout the kitchen.

D. Additional Responsibilities

  • Food and Equipment Knowledge:
    • Familiarize yourself with the hospital’s Diet Manual and patient menus to ensure proper tray preparation according to individual patient dietary needs.
    • Prepare and store fruits, vegetables, meats, and other ingredients following hospital guidelines for food safety and sanitation.
    • Assist with preparation of snacks or special late trays for patients outside of regular meal times.
    • Store and rotate food inventory appropriately to minimize waste and ensure compliance with safety standards.
    • Regularly clean and maintain kitchen appliances, utensils, and work areas following established sanitation schedules.
    • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor when interacting with hospital staff, patients, and visitors.
    • Participate in educational and in-service training to stay updated on dietary practices and safety procedures.
    • Fill in during vacation or sick leave coverage when needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dietary Services Supervisor or management.
    • Flexibility to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays, depending on the hospital’s needs.
