Position Summary:
The CAT Scan Technologist performs routine and special procedure imaging, prepares patients for procedures, assists radiologists, operates and maintains imaging equipment, and processes images as needed. Adheres to established standards of care and applies radiation protection principles to minimize exposure.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Adhere to Performance Standards and prepare patients for specific examinations, ensuring proper documentation.
  2. Produce high-quality technical images, reviewing completed exams for quality and completeness.
  3. Assist physicians during procedures as needed.
  4. Conduct equipment quality assurance and calibrations; notify senior staff when supplies are low.
  5. Be available for emergency procedures and work on call, holidays, or during varying shifts to maintain departmental coverage.
  6. Maintain cleanliness of work areas and report equipment malfunctions.
  7. Process images and prepare CDs as necessary.
  8. Perform routine office duties, including answering phones and documenting information in EPIC, RIS, and PACS.
  9. Notify transport when patients are ready for pick-up or return.
  10. May serve as an instructor or preceptor.
  11. Treat all individuals professionally and courteously.
  12. Introduce self, use two patient identifiers, and explain the exam to patients and families.
  13. Provide care to diverse patient populations, including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.
  14. Perform New York State and ACR quality assurance tasks.
  15. Attend staff meetings and in-services as required.
  16. Duties may change based on departmental needs.
  17. Be on standby for emergency department coverage.
  18. Aware of department-specific protocols, such as Stroke Program and IV & Oral contrast.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
  • NY State DOH Licensure or Limited Permit required.
  • ARRT registered (RT) and/or (CT) certified, or NMTCB registered (CNMT).
  • Documented training in operating CT equipment and radiation physics.
  • Pass advanced CT examination/certification within one year of hire.
  • Continuing education: 24 ECE credits over two years.
  • DOH IV certification preferred or completion during orientation.
  • BLS certification through AHA required within 90 days of hire.
  • Complete radiation dose pledge during orientation.

  • Ability to remain stationary for 50% of the time.
  • Occasionally move about the department to access patients and paperwork.
  • Constantly operate a computer and office machinery.
  • Frequently communicate with patients regarding tests.
  • Move and position patients for exams.
  • Exposure to chemicals; refer to hospital's SDS database for hazardous materials.
