Position Summary:
The MRI Technologist performs routine and special procedure imaging, prepares patients for procedures, assists radiologists as needed, and operates and maintains imaging equipment. Adheres to established standards of care and customer service programs while providing patient care and pursuing continuing education.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Understand and adhere to Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
- Prepare and position patients correctly for specific examinations, ensuring proper documentation.
- Produce high-quality technical images and review completed scans for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist physicians during procedures as necessary.
- Perform quality assurance and calibrations as required.
- Respond to emergency procedures and departmental situations as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas and report equipment malfunctions to the MRI supervisor.
- Print patient CDs when necessary.
- Perform routine office duties, including answering phones and documenting patient information in EMR and PACS systems.
- Notify front desk staff upon exam completion.
- Communicate with radiologists regarding images and report findings to attending physicians as needed.
- May serve as an instructor or preceptor.
- Introduce self to patients and educate them about the examination.
- Provide care based on age, physical, and psychosocial needs for diverse patient populations.
- Attend staff meetings and in-services.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Graduate from an accredited radiography school or hospital-based program.
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT); ARMRIT technologists must become ARRT MR certified within one year of hire.
- NY State DOH Licensure or Limited Permit required.
- Continuing education: 24 ECE credits over two years.
- BLS certification through AHA required within 90 days of hire.
- IV certification preferred or to be completed during a 6-month orientation.
- MRI safety certification (level 2) required annually.

- Observe and inspect patients in MRI zones.
- Frequently move and position patients for MRI exams.
- Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals; refer to the hospital's SDS database for details.
