Ambulatory Infusion RN PT or PRN
Position Overview:
- Preferred Experience:
- At least 1 year of experience as an RN in an acute care setting.
- Infusion therapy experience preferred but not required.
- At least 1 year of oncology experience in a clinical or hospital setting preferred but not required.
As an Ambulatory Infusion Registered Nurse (PRN), you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients receiving infusion therapies in the outpatient setting. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, working collaboratively with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes. Your role will involve administering medications, managing treatment plans, and maintaining a therapeutic and safe environment. This is a PRN position with flexible hours, ideal for an experienced RN looking to make a significant impact in patient care on an as-needed basis.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Patient Care & Nursing Process
- Assessment & Planning:
- Assess patients’ conditions and needs, develop care plans, and implement appropriate interventions based on physician orders and clinical guidelines.
- Ensure individualized, evidence-based care, including patient education on their treatment plan.
- Implementation & Evaluation:
- Administer medications and perform infusion-related procedures safely and according to physician orders.
- Continuously monitor patients during treatments, adjusting care processes as necessary to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Evaluate patient responses to treatments and adjust interventions as needed.
B. Clinical Decision Making & Emergency Management
- Independent Judgment:
- In the absence of a physician, make independent decisions in emergency situations and procedural issues to ensure patient safety.
- Respond promptly to changes in patient condition, providing appropriate interventions and notifying the physician as needed.
C. Collaboration & Communication
- Teamwork:
- Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary care team, including physicians, mid-level providers, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate patient status, concerns, and treatment plans clearly to all team members.
- Documentation & Confidentiality:
- Accurately document patient care, assessments, and interventions in the medical record.
- Ensure that all patient information is maintained confidentially and complies with HIPAA regulations.
D. Clinical Environment & Quality Improvement
- Safety & Environment:
- Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients in accordance with hospital policies and infection control standards.
- Ensure proper functioning of infusion equipment and adequate stocking of supplies.
- Quality Improvement:
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and implement corrective actions as necessary to improve patient outcomes.
- Keep up-to-date with ongoing quality studies and assist in their implementation.
E. Professional Development & Training
- Continuing Education:
- Actively pursue professional development opportunities through continuing education, workshops, in-services, and conferences.
- Stay current on the latest advancements in infusion therapy, oncology nursing, and clinical best practices.
- Cross-Training:
- Cross-train in additional areas of the Ambulatory Infusion Department, such as Med-Surg and Chemo Infusion, as needed.
F. Administrative & Operational Support
- Scheduling & Communication:
- Schedule patient appointments and treatments in a timely manner, ensuring efficient patient flow.
- Respond promptly to phone calls, emails, and other communications from healthcare professionals, staff, and patients.
- Billing & Documentation:
- Ensure accurate documentation of patient services, medications, and treatments for billing purposes.
- Understand charges related to infusion services and accurately charge patients for services provided.
G. Additional Responsibilities
- Serve as a resource to nursing staff and other healthcare professionals within the Ambulatory Infusion Department.
- Maintain effective communication with the Ambulatory Infusion Clinical Manager to ensure that both clinical and non-clinical needs are addressed.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Position Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Minimum Education: Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
- Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Licensure & Certification:
- Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Idaho.
- CPR Certification: Required.
- ACLS Certification: Required within one (1) year of hire.
- Additional Certifications: Training and certification in expanded service lines (e.g., chemotherapy, infusion therapy) as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, position, transfer, and move patients as needed.
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time.
- Occasional lifting of supplies and equipment (up to 50 pounds).
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
- Ability to work irregular hours as required by patient care needs.
Working Conditions:
- Potential exposure to patient elements such as blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced outpatient environment with patient safety and comfort as a priority.
- Occasional exposure to hazardous drugs and chemotherapy agents as part of infusion therapy protocols.
